This Han Solo Fan Film Will Get You Ready for His 2018 Standalone Film

Han Solo is everyone’s favorite scruffy-looking nerf-herder, and he’s made an indelible mark on all of our Star Wars-loving hearts thanks to the impeccable performance of Harrison Ford. Honestly, it’s pretty hard to picture Han without Ford playing the infamous smuggler, but in 2018, we’re gonna have to when Alden Ehrenreich takes on the role as young Solo. If you find yourself wondering how you can ever accept a performance of Han Solo without Harrison Ford behind the wheel, might I suggest this Han Solo fan film as the perfect bridge to get you stoked for a new chapter of Han Solo.

Han Solo: A Smuggler’s Trade is an impressively made fan film with the amazing Jamie Costa playing Solo. If Costa looks familiar to you, it’s likely because you’ve seen some of his amazing impressions online and on his super popular Vine (#RIPVine). He’s done spot-on impressions of people like Robin Williams and, of course, Harrison Ford as Han Solo. So seeing Costa play Han Solo in this expertly-made fan film seems like a completely perfect fit. Costa had some big shoes to fill in this role, but he was able to bring a spot-on performance that hearkened to classic and well-loved Harrison Ford performances while also breathing some new life into the role. He was able to capture Solo’s signature swagger practically perfectly, and there are points in the story where Costa is able to make himself sound almost identical to Harrison Ford. If nothing else, Costa’s performance makes this video a must-watch.

But what about the story? The film follows Han Solo on an adventure to rescue a captured Chewie. Though it’s only a bit over 13 minutes long, the story is fun and the production quality is surprisingly high. Han Solo: A Smuggler’s Trade is directed by Keith Allen and was written by Nathaniel Nauert, Jared Bell, and Keith Allen, and though it’s a non-canonical adventure, you can guess that the movie falls somewhere before the events of A New Hope.

What do you think of Han Solo: A Smuggler’s Trade? Do you like Costa’s performance as Han Solo, or do you think no one will ever be able to play Han like Harrison Ford? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
