Things to Do Outside of SDCC 2015

While it may be almost impossible to arrange housing and to secure a badge for San Diego Comic Con, if you’ve managed to make it into the city there’s plenty to do away from the panels and show floor. While some require a badge, others require an RSVP and some only require you to show up! Here’s the low-down on some fun events happening outside of the con this year.

All Weekend

Geek & Sundry Conival Events at Petco Park (no badge needed)


Join us at Petco Park all weekend! Your favorite Geek & Sundry hosts will be holding it down with all kinds of fun guests. Don’t forget to stop by and say hey! Here’s the schedule of panels and events.

Thursday, July 9

FX Fearless Arena at the Hilton Bayfront Park (no badge needed)

If you’re a fan of Fargo, The Strain, American Horror Story: Hotel or The Bastard Executioner, make sure to stop by the creepy FX Fearless activities outside of the Bayfront Hilton Hotel. There will be a virtual reality experience, challenge series and Fargo Snow Globe photo experience. There’s also chances to win exclusive prizes and to grab a code for a free 12-day FXNow trial.

Adult Swim on the Green behind the Convention Center (badge required)

Join Adult Swim as they take you on a galactic adventure with their carnival. It features nightly screenings, live-streaming events and some mind-numbing carnival activities that include a “dome experience” and Aqua Teen Vigil. Seems like a great spot to relax after a long day at the con. Free with RSVP, 18+

Game of Thrones: Experience the Realm at The Omni Hotel (no badge needed)

Don’t you watch Game of Thrones and just wish you could live in Westeros?! Here’s your chance to experience it all! Returning to SDCC this year, The Game of Thrones Experience allows fans to learn to fight like Arya, create gifs, and see costume displays from the show. And you can get a free t-shirt proving you survived.

July 9-11: 11am-5pm

Petco Park Interactive Zone (no badge needed)

Basically known as a fantastic place to get free food in between the bridge to the convention center and Petco Park, this year’s interactive zone will feature activations from Scream Queens, Gotham, Peanuts and more. But best of all, there will be a Hello Kitty Food truck!
Daily: 10am-7pm

Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate Obstacle Course (no badge needed)

Want to test out your skills on this Assassin’s Creed-themed obstacle course?! Head over to MLK at Harbor Drive to complete multiple dangerous challenges in this re-created set of London in San Diego. Just make sure you wear your protective gear for this one.

Gam3rCon at 10th Avenue Arts Center (ticketed)

If the games of SDCC aren’t enough for you or you simply want some after-hours fun. Grab a weekend pass for Gam3rCon and try out a ton of games. Everything from tabletop to video games, Gam3rCon exists to celebrate gaming. So grab your ticket and once your panels are done for the day, let the gaming begin.

Wednesday, July 8 – 8pm-11pm

Hop-Con 3.0: The w00tstout Festival (no badge needed, ticketed, 21+)
Tickets can be purchased here. Our beloved Wil Wheaton brings Hop-Con 3.0: The w00tstout Festival back to SDCC. A ticket gets you beer samples, food, a commemorative glass, fun times at the hop-cade and tons of beer, really. Plus, Kevin Eastman brings you an exclusive pizza-inspired beer!

Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions by San Diego Symphony Orchestra (no badge needed, ticketed)

Take a break from the noise of the con and check out a chill performance from the San Diego Symphony Orchestra as they take you on a retrospective of the popular Pokémon games at the Embarcadero Marina Park South.

Saturday, July 11 – 5-10pm

Marvel vs DC Art Exhibit at La Bodega Gallery (no badge required, free, all ages)

As the con winds down, enjoy a classic rivalry through art. Check out a free, all ages exhibit featuring a ton of artists, live body painting and more. Plus, here’s another chance to dress as your favorite character! More Info
