The Wednesday Club’s Comic Picks: You Know, For Kids!

The Wednesday Club is Geek & Sundry’s weekly talk show chatting about all things comics. This week, hosts Amy Dallen, Matt Key, and Taliesin Jaffe were joined by guest Ashley V. Robinson to talk about all-ages comics just in time for the holidays.

In the past, comic books and comic strips may have been just for kids, but comics bucked that trend long ago. If you’ve been hoping to get the kids in your life hooked on comics just like you are, it may seem like a daunting task to find books that kids can read and enjoy. The Wednesday Club is here to rescue you with these fantastic picks from past and present that make perfect presents any time of year. (And they’re good reads for any age.)

Guest Ashley V. Robinson stopped by The Wednesday Club to not just talk comics, but also to tell viewers a little about her own upcoming all-ages book, Jupiter Jet. The five-issue miniseries, co-written by Ashley and Jason Inman, follows a high-flying sixteen-year-old girl who becomes a hero after discovering a jetpack.

Matt, Amy, Taliesin, and Ashley also chatted about some of their own favorite all-ages books, from classics turned into comics to current comics destined to be classics, like Bone and Lumberjanes.

Take a look at the gallery below for specific recommendations from this week’s episode.

Amy also listed a few personal favorites in different categories, from old books like Archie Comics, Tintin, Little Nemo, Casper the Friendly Ghost, Pogo, and Groo the Wanderer to more recent kid-friendly titles from Marvel like The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, and Patsy Walker AKA Hellcat.

Matt was excited to talk about Axe Cop, a comic written by a kid, and all hosts agreed that Nimona and The Plain Janes are fantastic middle school and older reads. There’s also DC Super Hero Girls, Secret Coders, anything written by Raina Telgemeier… the list goes on and on.

Get more comic goodness!

Hang out on the Geek & Sundry Twitch channel and on Alpha every Wednesday night to catch the next spectacular episode of The Wednesday Club.
