The Wednesday Club’s Comic Picks: Officially Licensed Comics

The Wednesday Club is Geek & Sundry’s weekly talk show chatting about all things comics. This week, host Amy Dallen was joined by guests Xander Janneret and Danielle Radford to talk about officially licensed comic books that put familiar characters in new stories, sometimes long beyond the television series or film they’re based on.

From Star Wars to Buffy the Vampire Slayer to the most beloved cartoon series from your childhood, there are still stories to be told long past the time your favorite movie or television show rolls the end credits. Amy, Danielle, and Xander chatted about just a few of their favorite comic books that take the story beyond the screen into new, imaginative places.

“The wonderful world of licensed comics,” said Amy, “[are] original stories told in comics based on universes that come from elsewhere—which is a fabulously wide net.”

The hosts also mentioned other comic books based on existing media like Angel & Faith, SerenityJustice League/Power Rangers, Power Rangers: Shattered Grid, Power Rangers: Pink, Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles, Adventure Time, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Jem and the HologramsRick and Morty vs. Dungeons & Dragons, and The Adventure Zone.
