The Imperium of Man Will Remember – A Farewell To Alan Bligh

The Imperium of Man Will Remember – A Farewell To Alan Bligh

If you don’t know his name but you’re a fan of Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000, you will know his work.

Alan Bligh was the mastermind who brought the lore of the Horus Heresy to the tabletop for fans of the universe. He was the architect and designer who took the epic battles of the lore from the Age of Darkness and let players recreate them. He opened up new and incredible options with fancy units and vehicles with his work on the various Imperial Armour books. He also designed rules for the Warhammer 40,000 RPGs that were published by Fantasy Flight Games, including Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader.

He passed away over the weekend after a sudden battle with cancer.

A number of heartfelt eulogies by writers greater than I have already been posted, including ones from Black Library authors Aaron Dembski-Bowden and John French. Those who knew him not only spoke of his brilliant work, but spoke of his wisdom, his warmth, and his creativity.  Those of us who only knew him from his work can reflect on the man behind the things that bring us joy.  We will remember him as gamers, and his legacy will fill our imaginations and tablescapes.

Our sincere condolences to Alan’s friends and family.
