Batman is coming back to the big screen in 2021 with a new face under the mask! Deadline broke the news recently that The Batman will tell a story of a younger Bruce Wayne, and it won’t be Ben Affleck under the cowl.

While the internet is in a bit of a casting tizzy–Oscar Isaac is one of the names being floated that has our vote–the decision will come down to writer and director Matt Reeves.
The story is rumored to focus on Bruce’s early days as Batman. Last year on The Wednesday Club, hosts Matt Key, Amy Dallen, and Taliesin Jaffe took an in-depth look at the first Detective Comics issues starring “The Bat-Man.” Like Affleck’s Batman we saw in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, that early version of the Dark Knight wasn’t opposed to picking up a gun or killing the bad guys in the name of justice. There was no Alfred or Joker, and Catwoman was called simply “The Cat.” Only time will tell if this Reeves’ retelling in The Batman will follow the early comics or an entirely new story.
