Spotlight on Geek Wedding Fashions

Spotlight on Geek Wedding Fashions

The term “geek” used to be a simple description of someone’s interests. In recent years, however, geek has become a lifestyle, encompassing not just what you’re into, but rather who you are as a person. As this new generation of lifestyle geeks has reached a certain age, they have begun to partner off and this has inevitably led to an integration of geek into their wedding celebrations. The wedding industry hasn’t quite caught up to this new trend, but geeks walking down the aisle have brought their own creativity to the mix and have created some spectacularly classy and geeky events.

A few months ago, I received a wedding invitation in the mail from cosplayers and renaissance faire fanatics Andrew Elkins and Sasha Venola. The wedding and reception were to be held aboard the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA. I knew that the happy couple would be throwing a shindig worthy of both the venue and their own geeky interests. Sure enough, the wedding invite called for “Cocktail Dresses & Suits ~ Geeky Embellishments Encouraged”. The wedding party and their guests rose to the occasion and did not disappoint. There were many nods to Doctor Who and a large portion of the guests brought their own geeky flair to the ceremony. There were many homemade fashions, creative usage of accessories (especially from the men), and even some Her Universe designs were spotted.

Enjoy this quick look at some of the geeky fashions and I hope you can gain some inspiration on how to incorporate your own geekdom into your next formal occasion. Allons-y!
