Shambling Soon to A Tabletop Near You: Axis & Allies And Zombies Announced

This past weekend was the New York Toy Fair, and with the fair came a plethora of exciting announcement. Hasbro, the parent company of Wizards of the Coast and Avalon Hill, had an understandably large presence and also used the fair to make some significant announcements to the public and its investors, one of which was a twist on one of the most classic strategy tabletop titles this side of the Atlantic: Axis & Allies.

On a call with investors, Chris Cocks, President and CEO of Wizards of the Coast described the game:

“Axis & Allies and Zombies takes the beloved World War II strategy classic Axis & Allies and adds a fun alternate history twist with streamlined gameplay, curveballs like chainsaw tanks and zombie mind control rays, and a zany storyline strategy fans everywhere will enjoy.”

In the game, players not only have to contend with the opposing powers (Axis or Allies) but also an uprising of the undead and will accommodate 2-5 players in 1-3 hours.

The idea of A&A with zombies isn’t entirely new: as far back as 13 years ago, game designer Christopher Brandon posted a homebrew rule that allowed for and gave stats to zombies in Axis & Allies on BoardGameGeek. Just goes to show that some great ideas persist through time.
