Our 5 Most Anticipated Video Games for 2019

Each week on Twitch and Alpha, hosts Erika Ishii and Trisha Hershberger talk video games with special industry guests, insightful coverage and a ton of audience interaction on our show Game Engine. Be sure to tune in every Tuesday starting at 4 PM PT to learn about what’s new and cool in the world of video games.

2018 saw a lot of amazing games come out like Rockstar’s epic western tale Red Dead Redemption 2, the indie darling of emotional mountaineering Celeste,  the breathtaking Shadow of the Tomb Raider, and the classic crowd-pleasing series Super Mario Party. I’ve barely had time to play all of the fantastic titles that were released, but with the arrival of the new year, a horde of new and awesome games are on their way. Which titles are on my wishlist? Let’s take a look! Here’s my most anticipated video games for 2019 in no particular order.

Anthem

Anthem is Bioware’s upcoming online multiplayer action rpg  where you and up to three other players don awesome armored exosuits called javelins to fight huge monsters and explore a wild new world. There are four different javelin classes and I love that you you are not locked into any one as your character. You can play in each of the four, level your skills up in them, find your favorite play-style, and customize your suits to really make them your own. The game sounds amazing and as a fan of Bioware games in general and I cannot wait for Anthem’s release on February 22nd. Anthem will be available for Origin, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.

Kingdom Hearts 3

KH3

It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for a new installment in the Kingdom Hearts series, but come January 25th Kingdom Hearts 3 (KH3) will finally hit shelves. This new chapter promises to be the last in the “Dark Seeker Saga” which focuses on Xehanort (if you are lost go check out my guide to the story so far), but not the last story to be told in the Kingdom Hearts universe. These games are beloved by many due to the wide cast of characters pulled from both Disney and  Square Enix. You can look forward to seeing familiar faces from Toy Story, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean Monsters Inc., and more.

Metro Exodus

MetroExodus

Ok, so hot take: I like Fallout 76. I’ve loved the Fallout series from the first game and I know that I’m probably in the minority when I say I have been having a blast in Bethesda’s online post-apocalyptic first-person shooter (FPS) game. Regardless of whether or not you agree, if you enjoy any aspect of the series from the irradiated, mutant filled world to the FPS action, then Metro Exodus might be perfect for you. Metro Exodus is the third installment in the Metro video game series and plonks you down in a Russian post-apocalyptic wasteland where you must traverse the ravage lands aboard a train known as the Aurora as you search for a new home. The game comes out February 15 for the X-Box One, PlayStation 4, and  PC.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

Grab your Poltergust vacuum and get ready to bust some spooks! Luigi, the reluctant ghost-hunter extraordinaire, is coming back this year in Luigi’s Mansion 3 (LM3)! As this new title will be released for the Nintendo Switch, it will have Amiibo support where the amiibos will reveal where ghosts are hiding and heal Luigi. Other than announcing it would come out sometime in 2019, Nintendo hasn’t said much else about LM3, but considering how much fun the previous games were, Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be a boo-blasting good time.

Untitled Goose Game

I have a surrealist sense of humor that means I am often delighted by strange, silly games especially if they involve animals. The Untitled Goose Game is upcoming stealth shenanigans game from  developer House House. In it you play an antagonistic goose with a heart full of mischief. As the goose you’ll have a bunch of missions to irritate the people who live in your village by stealing their food, breaking their stuff, and generally causing chaos and mayhem wherever you go. It’s killing me that House House hasn’t announced a release date yet and considering their game’s theme maybe that’s point. Stop teasing me House House. GIVE ME THE GOOSE!

Good golly there so many more games I’d love to include on this list, but I’d need like three more articles at least to cover everything. Which upcoming releases are you revved up to play? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to tune into Game Engine on Twitch and Alpha for more video game goodness every Tuesday starting at 4PM PT.
