New Rogue One Details Emerging From Entertainment Weekly

Entertainment Weekly is dropping more Rogue One: A Star Wars Story details than I was prepared for. I’m just a little overwhelmed okay! *deep breaths* Most of the information is only available exclusively through EW. If you’re dying to know everything, the full issue with all the juicy details hits stands on Friday. Here’s what they’ve shared so far:

Darth Vader Returns!

This is both a surprise and not a surprise at all when you think about it. Vader was not present in the trailer, and his role was only just confirmed. However, it makes perfect sense that the most domineering force in the empire–no pun intended–would be involved. Vader is in his prime during this era. How much screen time will he get? That’s the real mystery.

Will James Earl Jones be providing the voice for the iconic Sith lord? Most likely. He does voice the role in Star Wars Rebels after all. There’s no good reason why he wouldn’t. What’s less likely to happen is the return of 80 year-old David Prowse as Vader’s physical body. Hayden Christensen stated earlier this year that he’d happily return to the role if asked. Or it could be someone new entirely.

Entertainment Weekly will have more details on Vader’s return soon, so keep your eyes peeled.

Even More Imperial Military Goodies

Rogue One will show off a new Imperial Walker called an AT-ACT and a new starfighter called a TIE Striker. Not only will Director Krennic have that gorgeous white cape, but he will also have new Shocktroopers working for him.

Character Bios

EW shared photos and bios for all the main characters. Check them out in the gallery below.

Forest Witiker’s mysterious character is someone you know:

EW revealed that Whitiker’s character is actually Saw Gerrera, as seen in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 5. Gerrera, along with his sister Steela, were part of an insurgent group being trained under Anakin Skywalker. By the time the story of Rogue One occurs, it’s been 20-odd years since, and Gererra is not all that trusting of authority. He’s an ally of the squadron, but he’s definitely not one of them.

What I’m most excited for:

Alan Tudyk as K-2SO. From what I’ve read, K-2SO is the antithesis of prim-and-prissy C-3PO. He’s rude, he’s tough, and he doesn’t care what you think. He’s described as “Chewacca’s personality in a droid’s body,” but I think that’s only because the masses don’t know who HK-47 is. HK-47 is the assassin droid from the Old Republic stories who’s as hilarious as he is deadly. Now imagine this character being played by Alan Tudyk. Now do you see why that’s so exciting?

So that’s the gist of what’s coming from Entertainment Weekly. Even more details will be revealed this Friday when the full issue comes out. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story opens in theaters on December 16. What are you most excited for? Share your thoughts in the comments!
