Neil Gaiman’s “Snow, Glass, Apples” Getting Graphic Novel Treatment

Neil Gaiman’s “Snow, Glass, Apples” Getting Graphic Novel Treatment

If you’re not as familiar with Neil Gaiman’s short story work, “Snow, Glass, Apples” is his short story reimagining of the Snow White tale. Gaiman takes the children’s fairy tale and twists it into an adult story that takes a hard left turn into Anne Rice territory (complete with vampires.)

It twists the perspective, darkens the tone, and totally changed how I saw Snow White and her moonlight pale skin (I first encountered “Snow, Glass, Apples” in the Gaiman short story compilation Smoke And Mirrors: Short Stories and Illusions, but the tale was originally released to benefit the Comic Defense Legal Fund).

Excitingly, the Gaimain-ified fairy tale is now getting an adaptation through a collaboration with Colleen Doran, who’s collaborated in the past with Gaiman on the much beloved Sandman comic series and another Smoke And Mirrors short story adaptation, Troll Bridge, published by Dark Horse and who is also publishing the graphic novelization of “Snow, Glass, Apples”.

As Dark Horse Comics describes the story: “A not-so-evil queen is terrified of her monstrous stepdaughter and determined to repel this creature and save her kingdom from a world where happy endings aren’t so happily ever after.”
