Make a Trinket For the Tree This Holiday Season

Critical Role is Geek & Sundry’s live Dungeons & Dragons show, featuring Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer and his troupe of fellow voice actors. Catch them every Thursday night at 7:00 PM PT on the Geek & Sundry Twitch channel and on Alpha.

It’s the time of year for warm fuzzies and holiday cheer! Make your own Critical Role-themed warm fuzzy this year with this DIY Trinket ornament that can hang on a tree or on your doorknob year-round.

Trinket is Vex’ahlia’s loyal partner (and an occasional heist participant), and his soft fur and shiny armor make him the perfect companion this holiday season.

What You Need

  • Large round papier-mache ornament
  • Printable PDF fur template
  • Brown craft fur
  • Black pom-pom
  • Black enamel dot stickers
  • White acrylic paint
  • Silver craft foam
  • Hot glue gun
  • Craft knife
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Pencil

Get Started!

Begin by printing and cutting out the fur templated linked above. Trace five shapes on the back of the brown craft fur, and cut out each one.

Next, placing the fur piece vertically with one pointed end near the ornament string and the other on the bottom of the ornament, hot glue the fur down. Be sure to glue completely around the edges.

Repeat with each piece of fur until the ornament is completely covered.

Next, cut two round ear shapes out of the craft fur, and hot glue them to the top of the ornament.

Hot glue the pom-pom to the front of the ornament for Trinket’s nose.

Next, fold the fur template in half, and trace it on the silver craft foam. Cut out the foam and attach it to the top of Trinket’s head, next to the ears.

Place a small amount of hot glue on the edges of the craft foam closest to the ears, and stick a little fur to the foam to make it look like it’s being worn as a helmet.

Next, cut a half-circle out of the silver foam, approximately the same length as the two ears from outside edge to outside edge. Attach it behind the ears on the top and back side of the ornament.

Cut a smaller tear-drop shape than the fur template shape out of the craft foam, small enough to fit between Trinket’s ears. Use a craft knife to make a small cut in the middle of the shape, and slide the ornament string through.

Attach the smaller shape on top of both the front and back pieces of armor to complete the helmet.

Next, use the paint brush to paint two small white dots on two large black enamel dot stickers. Let dry completely.

Stick the two black enamel dots on the front of the ornament for Trinket’s eyes.

Your Trinket is complete!
