Invite Your Friends to Your Magnificent Mansion For a Critical Role Watch Party

Critical Role is Geek & Sundry’s live Dungeons & Dragons show, featuring Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer and his troupe of fellow voice actors. Catch them every Thursday night at 7:00 PM PT on the Geek & Sundry Twitch channel and on Alpha.

It’s the night you’ve been waiting for! Critical Role returns Thursday, January 11 with a brand new campaign and characters in the world of Exandria. If you’ve always longed to watch the show live from the very beginning, now’s your chance.

But adventures are always more fun with companions, and Critical Role is no exception. Host a watch party this Thursday night for the first episode–or any Thursday night–with these five tips for making the big night a big success.

Watch on a big screen

Critical Role

Unless you like the idea of everyone watching on their own devices, throw Critical Role on the big screen so guests can catch the action together. You can use Airplay or Chromecast once the video is available on Alpha, or watch live with the official Twitch app on Xbox and PlayStation.

Make it easy to get on your wifi

If big screens aren’t an option, or your friends are Critters who like to jump into chat or livetweet the stream, make sure your wifi information is posted where it can be seen easily.

Stick a note on the fridge with your network name and password, or just check in with your guests when they arrive to see if they’d like the info. They’ll appreciate your thoughtfulness, and you’ll appreciate not being asked for your wifi password while you’re trying to concentrate on the episode.

Pre-show Fun

Those last minutes before the second campaign premieres will feel the longest, so why not pass the time with something to get your mind off the wait?

Host a trivia contest for guests who are Critical Role vets, put one-shots like Trinket’s Honey Heist or Grog’s game of Bunions & Flagons on the big screen, or even run a Honey Heist or Dungeons & Dragons game if you’re looking to fill most of the day.

Have enough snacks worthy of a Heroes’ Feast

This might seem like a no-brainer, but don’t forget to put snacks on your shopping list. Grab ideas from this board game themed International Tabletop Day snack list, or wow your guests with these Settlers of Catan nachos from our friends at Nerdist.

If you’re feeling really creative, make these d20 cookies from Rosanna Paisano with the help of Felicia Day.

Be The Host With the Most With Party Favors

Looking to go all out for the new campaign? Give your guests parting gifts so they’ll be more than excited to come back the next time you invite them over. You can hand out new dice you picked up at your FLGS to commemorate the evening, or official Critical Role merchandise like the d20 dice or pencils if you’re feeling particularly generous.

You can also make little knickknacks for your guests with the DIY how-tos for Doty bookmarks, fluffy weapons, or Critical Role tote bags.

Whether you watch the new campaign with ten people, just your significant other or best friend, or on your own, it will be a night to remember.
