Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s Cast Reunited For the 20th Anniversary

Twenty years ago, no one would have guessed that Buffy the Vampire Slayer would be one of the all-time great TV shows. The 1992 Buffy feature film came and went, as if it was destined to be forgotten. But Joss Whedon got a second chance to bring his character to life, and it caught on with a generation of fans. Buffy has been off the air since 2002, but the fandom has never gone away. And this week, Entertainment Weekly put Buffy the Vampire Slayer back on the cover after gathering most of the cast members for a 20th anniversary reunion.

Joining Whedon for the event were original series stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Kristine Sutherland, and David Boreanaz, as well as later cast members including Seth Green, James Marsters, Alexis Denisof, Emma Caulfield, Amber Benson, and Michelle Trachtenberg. Sadly, Anthony Stewart Head was not among the reunion, but this was the first time that many of the cast had been together for years. For the occasion, they posed for new photographs and took part in group interviews.

Many of the cast members including Hannigan and Boreanaz went off to greater success outside of Buffy, but they’ve all kept the spirit of this show with them even after all of this time. Whedon seemed particularly moved by the moment and the ongoing impact of the series. “The most important thing to me is that I have had people come up to me and say the show made me feel different about what they could be, about what they could do, about how they respond to problems, about being a female leader,” related Whedon. “People getting strength from my own little terrors is… There is no better legacy than that.”

EW’s new issue will feature many other Buffy details and interviews, and we can’t wait to check it out!
