Raise Hell In BALDUR’S GATE: DESCENT INTO AVERNUS

Dungeons & Dragons has a new adventure book that’s going to put your players through hell—and they’re going to love every second of it. Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus contains an adventure that takes players through levels 1 to 13 in a campaign unlike any other. Along the way they’ll dive into the seedy underworld of Baldur’s Gate, make unexpected allies, and ultimately find themselves embroiled in the Blood War in the Nine Hells.

Spoiler Warning: Dungeon Master eyes only!

Descent Into Avernus takes players from Baldur’s Gate and into the first layer of the Nine Hells, Avernus, on a quest to save thousands. It will ultimately take a confrontation with Zariel, the ruler of Avernus, to complete the harrowing mission. Will your players fight the lord of Avernus until their dying breaths? Or will they strike a calamitous deal with the devil?

The adventure is split into five chapters focusing on different locations, beginning in Baldur’s Gate. In an intriguing twist, players cannot leave the walls of Baldur’s Gate, and they will quickly find themselves embroiled in the politics and underworld (literally) of the chaotic city. The book begins with the history and background of the town and its inhabitants, creating the tone for the campaign and setting the stage for the first quest.

With flowcharts, tips for roleplaying, and a glorious abundance of flavor text to read aloud, Descent Into Avernus feels friendly to all levels of Dungeon Masters. And as we’ve come to expect from Wizards of the Coast, the artwork inside is nothing short of spectacular. The appendix of hellish creatures is both terrifying and riveting, and luckily for your players, they’ll get a chance to see some of the art for themselves in the Descent Into Avernus Dice & Miscellany set.

Inside the gorgeous box—which is also a dice tray—they’ll find eleven dice, a map of Avernus, and twenty double-sided cards featuring some of the Nine Hells’ most fearsome creatures. Legendary traveler Volothamp Geddarm shares facts about the denizens of Avernus without giving away any info players shouldn’t have before they set foot in the Nine Hells. The dice and cards are so stunning that even if you’re not playing in a Descent Into Avernus campaign, you’ll love to have them in your collection.

Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus provides the tools to create an unforgettable experience for Dungeon Masters and players, veteran and newbie alike. Find the dice set and the adventure book with an exclusive cover at your friendly local game store on September 17.
