Bad Lip Readings Turns Yoda into a Soulful Blues Singer

The Bad Lip Reading crew has struck again, dicing up scenes from The Empire Strikes Back to make it seem like Yoda imparts his advice to young Skywalker through the language of song. Does the diminutive Dagobah dweller caution Luke on the temptations of the Dark Side? Nah. Instead, he warns of pesky seagulls who’ll pester any passersby at the beach. As the video reveals, Luke doesn’t find any solutions to his petty high school problems in this soft-spoken bluesman’s ramblings. And when Yoda starts treating R2D2 like a re-purposed drum out of a Stomp performance, the would-be Jedi voices his displeasure for the little green man’s folksy stylings in no uncertain terms. Things get surprisingly… menacing after that? This tuneful lunacy truly has to be seen (and heard) to be believed.

It’s a surprisingly catchy little diddy, isn’t it? What’s most impressive isn’t actually the precise syncing of radically different lines with the lips of this actor (and Muppet). No, what’s surprising is that the song isn’t some forced gimmick. It is, in fact, rather catchy. Don’t tell us you weren’t humming along and shaking your tail feather.

The sage Jedi master has shared his funkier side before, of course. In this infamous outtake from Revenge of the Sith, Yoda clowns around with some Clonetroopers between set-ups, dropping his cane aside to pop lock in the Jedi Temple’s foyer.

This isn’t the first time Bad Lip Reading has dropped inappropriate dialog and music into Star Wars, or even ESB. An earlier version of “Seagulls! (Stop It Now)” can be found in this longer clip, along with plenty of scenes that suddenly seem a lot… steamier with the skewered audio.

Is this your fav Star Wars Bad Lip Reading yet? Or are “Bushes of Love” and “Not the Future” more your speed? Act like some seagulls and peck at the talkback.
