‘Ace Attorney’ Returns to Mobile with Miles Edgeworth

Each week on Twitch and Alpha hosts Erika Ishii and Trisha Hershberger talk video games with special industry guests, insightful coverage and a ton of audience interaction on our show Game Engine. Be sure to tune in every Tuesday starting at 4PM PT to learn about what’s new and cool in the world of video games.

Prepare your pointer-fingers people! There’s a new mobile Ace Attorney game on the loose!

The Ace Attorney series is a much-beloved line of courtroom drama video games with offshoots of manga, toys,  and even its own anime. The games are off-the-wall, kooky legal battles where no crime is ever as straightforward as it first appears and often times the witnesses are crazier than the criminals.

Throughout the series you get to play as a bunch of different lawyers including the popular Phoenix Wright, trainees Apollo Justice and Athena Cykes, and Phoenix’s uptight, cravat-wearing rival Miles Edgeworth. Almost all of the Ace Attorney games have been ported to play on mobile platforms, but sadly Edgeworth’s title was left behind. That is, until now! Recently Capcom released the latest installment to their mobile line-up: Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.

In this game, you’ll play as prosecutor Miles Edgeworth as he tries to clear his name when a brutal murder occurs in his office. Over the course of 5 chapters, you’ll work different cases that will lend clues to what is truly going on and let you get a look into Edgeworth’s past with his very first trial.

Reminiscent of ye olde “point-and-click” adventure games, in Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, you’ll get to poke around, investigating crime scenes, and analyzing clues to prepare yourself for battle courtroom-style. Whereas Phoenix Wright may be a talented defense lawyer relying on gut feelings and an extraordinary ability to filibusterer until he can solve the case, Edgeworth uses calm, collected logic to sort through the false leads and lies that surround each case. In this game, the “Logic” system allows you to choose two clues and “combine” them to discover new information.

The Ace Attorney games are a ton of fun; mixing fantastic humor, a bizarre cast of characters, and often challenging puzzles.  Special mention needs to be made of the localization – the incredibly fun dialogue loses nothing for its being translated into English, and ridiculous attention was given to making things like cultural references and jokes land well, even removed from their source material. This game is a slightly more serious take on the Ace Attorney universe, but it makes sense, given Edgeworth’s attitude. You can expect to see some classic characters like Dick Gumshoe, Franziska von Karma, Maya Fey, and even Phoenix Wright himself, along with a gaggle of new oddballs that will test Edgeworth’s patience to the bitter end (all the while keeping you giggling along).  Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth is a nice addition to the mobile collection and will let you continue to relive the fun of the Ace Attorney series.
