What’s your preference? Are you a fan of long, on-going anime sagas like One Piece, Dragon Ball Z, or Bleach? Or do you prefer series that are short and to the point? A lot of good anime series span at least 150 episodes, but some people just don’t have time for all that! Look, props to those of you who have dedicated years to to your favorite shows, but there are some of us who enjoy an entertaining story that can wrap it up in 50 episodes or less. For example:
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Aside from the three OVAs Ghost in the Shell, Innocence, and Solid State Society, Stand Alone Complex is the name of the television series that spanned two self-contained seasons. The first season of Stand Alone Complex features Major Motoko Kusanagi and her special ops task force team, Section 9, on the hunt for the cyber terrorist known as “The Laughing Man.” The second season deals with physical terrorism and a mysterious hacker who may hold the key to Kusanagi’s past
With the live-action, Hollywood adaptation coming out in spring, 2017, now is the best time to get caught up on all things Ghost in the Shell.
Psycho–Pass
Psycho-Pass takes place in a dystopian future that sort of works like the Phillip K. Dick story, “Minority Report.” In the 22nd century, Japan enforces the Sibyl System, which determines the threat level/pre-criminal intent or “Psycho-Pass” of every individual. A rookie Sibyl System enforcer, Akane Tsunemori, seeks to bring peace and justice to the city only to discover the system is severely flawed. After a chance encounter in the field, Akane questions the system and whether it is truly efficient in upholding the law, or too corrupt to be salvaged.
Code Geass
Oh man, Code Geass. A mecha tragedy that is guaranteed to bring a tear to your eye. The Holy Britannian Empire has conquered and colonized Japan which is now known as Area 11. The empire uses powerfully destructive robotic weapons called Knightmares to ensure control, but the citizens of Area 11 are ready to fight back. The people’s champion, Suzaku Kururugi the White Knight, and grade-A douche Lelouch, The Black Prince, duke it out in the fight for truth, justice, and fairness for all.
