You Can Now Watch Star Wars With BB-8 Because Life Is Wonderful

Everybody loves BB-8. The second that little white and orange droid rolled onto the screen, it rolled into each one of our hearts. Seriously, if you didn’t love BB-8 after it gave Finn this adorably wonderful thumbs-up, your heart may be a few sizes too small.

Of course, the thing about these awesome droids that we meet in the Star Wars universe is that they’re so awesome onscreen, but there’s really no way to interact with them IRL. We can maybe get a toy version of the droid, but getting something that really interacts with you in a manner reminiscent to what we see onscreen is a bit harder.

UNTIL NOW, that is!

If you have yourself a Sphero BB-8, a recent update has made it possible for you to watch The Force Awakens with the droid, and it will actually listen and react to the film as it plays. With adorable features like cowering when Kylo Ren is onscreen or beeping (the droid version of cheering) when our faves like Han Solo are onscreen, you’ll get to watch The Force Awakens with someone who lived it.

So how does it work? Once you make sure your app is updated and paired with your droid, simply plug it into its charging cradle to keep it from tumbling off the couch, point BB-8 to the screen, and get to watching. BB-8 will use your smartphone to hear the movie, and will react accordingly. Sure, this technology might be a step drawing us closer to the robot apocalypse, but coming from such an adorable droid, who cares?

Sphero has more updates planned for everyone’s favorite ball droid that will roll out (pun absolutely intended) later this year, but I’m pretty sure watching The Force Awakens on repeat with BB-8 will be enough fun to keep us occupied.

Do you have a Sphero BB-8? Are you planning a movie night with BB-8 soon? What other fun tricks do you hope BB-8 will learn in future Sphero updates? Tell me about it in the comments!
