Who Wears It Better? Guys vs. Girls Powerpuff Cosplay

One of the many reasons to love the Powerpuff Girls is how the show eschews gender norms. Fans of the show have taken that sentiment up in how they cosplay the characters of the show. As a result, its crossplay is both common and comical. Moreover, thanks to the episode “Powerpuff Bluff”, where imprisoned convicts dressed up as the Powerpuff Girls to escape (yes, Townsville’s public servants aren’t the most perceptive people) there is is a trend for large, burly men to dress up as these tiny, kick-ass, super-powered girls. One of our favourites is an entirely crossplayed set, with a female Professor Utonium, three of the burliest Powerpuff Girls we’ve seen yet, and even a tiara-wearing Mojo Jojo.

The best part of it is that none of these cosplays or crossplays are done ironically, despite how intentionally crude some of the grown-men-as-girls cosplays look; it’s intentional and done out of love and fandom.

So you tell us: who did it better? Was the male HIM or female HIM done better? How about Professor Utonium? Which group of grown men make better Powerpuff “girls”? Which unconventional Powerpuff Girls cosplay is better: sailor scouts or zombies?  Pick your favourite and let us know in the comments!
