“ALSO STAR TREK HOLY CRAP RIGHT GUYS?!?!?” — Kevin Ott, Social Media Manager for Geek & Sundry
That pretty much sums up how we’re all feeling right now. Why? Because CBS just released a teaser trailer and new logo for the upcoming new Star Trek series. Check it out!
The teaser promises “new crews, new villains, new heroes, (and) new worlds,” but doesn’t show any footage. “The brand-new Star Trek will introduce new characters seeking imaginative new worlds and new civilizations, while exploring the dramatic contemporary themes that have been a signature of the franchise since its inception in 1966,” CBS stated in a previous press release.
Unfortunately, CBS is keeping very tight-lipped about the characters and plots. Filming is set to begin this fall in Toronto, Canada which explains the lack of footage. The production is being made under CBS Television Studios and Alex Kurtzman’s production company Secret Hideout. Kurtzman has worked on several popular series including Alias, Fringe, and Hawaii Five-O. He also co-wrote and produced 2013’s Star Trek Into Darkness.
The brand new Star Trek series will premiere in January, 2017 on CBS and online at CBS All Access. While we anxiously await more, here’s what we’re hoping to see in the new series.
What kind of stories and characters do you hope to see in the new Star Trek? Let us know in the comments!
