It’s no secret that we love Wil Wheaton around here, so we were pretty stoked to hear that he got to share a glass of wine with none other than Captain James T. Kirk himself, William Shatner on the latter’s booze-tastic webshow, Brown Bag Wine Tasting. Shatner’s guests have been pretty varied — from aspiring actors to Real Housewives — but Wil seems like a pretty natural choice for the Star Trek alum.
Though the episode is just over six minutes, it manages to feature what appears to have been a pretty fabulous conversation about gaming, wine, beer, and a bit of Star Trek—because, of course. More specifically, Wil talks a bit about Star Trek Online, and sort of blows Shatner’s mind with the awesome things you can in do the RPG. It’s kind of fantastic to watch his reaction to Wil’s description of the game. They also talk about making plans to hang out together after the shoot, so this paired with what I hope will be their new, shared love of Star Trek online gaming is officially making me consider a Wesley Crusher/Captain Kirk BroTP. You’ll have to watch for yourself to decide.
We also get to hear Wil talk a bit about brewing his own beer and listen to him spout some knowledge on the matter. I’ll be honest, I found his vast insight on the subject pretty impressive–especially since my alcohol discussions usually focus more on “is there an umbrella in the drink” or “am I too embarrassed to order a drink with this ridiculous name?”
He also goes on to drop some classic Wheaton knowledge on nerdom, saying, “Being a nerd isn’t about what you love, it’s the way you love it. I’m a nerd for beer.” Listening to him gush about brewing beer and all the different aspects of how you taste it, it’s clear that he’s a nerd for more than just entertainment stuff — and it’s freaking amazing.
So go and pour yourself a glass of wine and check out Wil Wheaton and William Shatner on this latest episode of Brown Bag Wine Tasting.
