We see protagonist Jyn Erso, played by Felicity Jones, in a variety of blaster fights, as well as other members of her crew in conflict — including a lot of screen time for Donnie Yen’s blind martial artist Chirrut.
There are also a variety of new Storm Troopers shown, including those driving a tank-like vehicle. The black armored Death Troopers also make an appearance. Some time is given to the film use of full sets and practical special effects like explosions, which are then actually shown, over the use of green screens and CGI. Shots of action on the beaches of the film’s tropical planet, may make you flashback to Normandy in World War II, giving the footage even more gravitas. The video ends with Erso saying a variation of the famous line from the series, “May the Force be with us.”
Like the first teaser, the video shows a mix of the familiar Star Wars setting, but with new characters and locations, as well as a more modern sensibility.
“I’m making a film that’s right touching my favorite film of all time, but then if you’re too respectful of it, that you dare not do anything new or different, take a risk, then what are you bringing to the table?” Director Gareth Edwards said in the video.
With the reveal of the video, a new poster for the film was also released.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the first anthology film in the Star Wars universe, will be released on December 16, 2016.
