Terrifying! Unbelievable! Robots from outer space! Phrases that conjure up memories of 1950’s style mayhem and monsters. Movies that feature pretty girls in danger, unlikely heroes, and robots in disguise? If that sounds interesting to you, well…
Thanks to those zany cats over at the Mashable Watercooler YouTube page, we have an idea of what Michael Bay’s explosion-laden Transformers film would look like circa the 1950s.
Not a detail is missing from this interpretation. Chilling music? Check. A stilted voice over that makes an attempt at being menacing? Check. A delightful amount of film grain? Check. If you don’t believe me about how accurate it is, here’s a few examples of trailers from Robot Monster, The Blob, and everyone’s favorite, Attack of the Killer Shrews.
I can’t lie, as dedicated B-movie fan, I would watch a 1950’s style remake of Transformers. The film really does have the perfect mix to make it a prime candidate for a 1950’s schlock. We’d even get the underused (for the time) twist that the menace from beyond the stars wasn’t all bad. And just imagine the special effects. (Stop-motion transforming robots, please.) Besides, it certainly could be worse than Transformers: Dark of the Moon.
We know, Shia, we know.
