Body armor manufacturer AR500 Armor teamed up with Heckler & Koch, TEA Headsets, Sog Knives & Tools, Armasight, SureFire, Wilcox Industries Corp, and Team Wendy to create a line of ballistic armor inspired by the Mandalorian bounty hunters of Star Wars. Translation: Boba Fett armor that can take a bullet.
For those of you not as familiar with Mandalorian culture, the armor is everything. It’s a unifying symbol of the clans that allow them to identify easily as fearsome warriors while being customizable enough to tell who is who. Some say that Mandalorian’s only remove their helmets around people they trust.
Called the Galact-Tac Project, the armor was designed by Ryan B. Flowers, an artist known for creating Airsoft-friendly Mandalorian armor. But instead of using his usual plating meant for pellet guns, this project included custom AR500 ballistic plates and other top-of-the-line tactical pieces. No word yet if this armor will actually be mass produced or how much it will cost. If you think about it, Mandalorian armor that could stop a bullet will likely cost you significantly more than you’d want to pay for cosplay. Fortunately for the rest of us, Flowers’ Mandalorian-themed Airsoft armor is available through his website for $325.
Of course, the real question we’re all wondering is if it can stop a bullet, can it stop blaster fire or a lightsaber? We may never know.
