Drag queens are the best. I love them. They were braving costume play long before it became the common con occurrence that it is today. Phi Phi O’Hara, daring drag queen and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, set out to challenge herself with 365 days of drag. Every day, she shares a new look on Instagram. Her photos range from glamorous to downright haute couture weirdness.
What’s really wowed the internet, though, is her series of looks based on beloved 90s cartoon characters. Phi Phi’s looks utilize styled wigs, makeup, prosthetics, and quite a bit of handmade clothing. Check it out:
Judy Funnie – Doug
Actress. Poet. Weirdo. I wonder how many times Phi Phi screamed “I HATE YOU!” into a mirror to prepare to take this photo.
Jane Lane – Daria
[ 48/365 ] #365DaysOfDrag LAST WEEK OF THE “90S CARTOONS!” NEXT UP…..JANE! I figured I needed to complete the set. ^_^ A photo posted by Phi Phi O’Hara (@phiphiohara) on
Just about every teen girl in the 90s wanted to be Daria’s best friend Jane at some point. She was an artist, effortlessly hip, and just as fast with a well-disguised insult as her titular bestie.
Dot Warner – Animaniacs
[ 42/365 ] #365DaysOfDrag “90S CARTOONS!” NEXT UP…..#DOT! #Animaniacs I used one of the prosthetic noses I made, and for the eyes, they are open, I simply put in my black sclera lenses and used Kryolan Aquacolor to draw the ovals around my eyes. I cut an old wig and sprayed it to keep its shape and pulled the wig over my ears since DOT doesn’t have ears like humans. A photo posted by Phi Phi O’Hara (@phiphiohara) on
Can’t… unsee! I’m not sure if Phi Phi’s rendition of Dot is adorable or terrifying. Maybe a little bit of both.
Helga Pitaki – Hey Arnold!
[ 44/365 ] #365DaysOfDrag “90S CARTOONS!” NEXT UP…..HELGA PATAKI! #HeyArnold! A photo posted by Phi Phi O’Hara (@phiphiohara) on
Helga is a tomboy who rules the 4th grade with an iron fist. And although she doesn’t want to show it, she’s completely in love with “football-head” Arnold. But what I really want to know is how does she get her wig to do that?!
Elmira – Tiny Toon Adventures
[ 40/365 ] #365DaysOfDrag “90S CARTOONS!” NEXT UP…..#ELMIRA #TinyToonAdventures Also, I got to use one of the prosthetic noses I made for this one. ♡ A photo posted by Phi Phi O’Hara (@phiphiohara) on
Just the sight of Elmira will have any child of the 90s curled up and rocking back and forth muttering in fear because you still hear her squeaky voice talk about all the things she’s going to do to those animals.
Didi Pickles – Rugrats

Didi was Tommy and Dil’s loving mom on Rugrats who always headed Dr. Lipschitz’s advice.
Jubilee – X-Men

Superpowered mutant or super talented drag queen?
Phi Phi is clearly talented when it comes to styling, plus she’s also a huge fan of comic books. Her original drag name was Phoenix Mathews, named for the X-Man. We look forward to seeing what other looks she creates during this 365 days of drag challenge. I don’t think anyone here would be opposed to some more comic book characters.
Have you ever tried gender-swapped cosplay or drag? What characters would you want to do? Let us know in the comments!
