This Battle of The Five Armies Is–Holy Crap It’s Real!

You’re in the woods in the beautiful Czech Republic. You’re enjoying an afternoon hike, or maybe a picnic with a loved one when suddenly, hundreds of orcs, elves, humans, wargs, goblins, dwarves, and more are all bearing down on your location at once HOLY CRAAAAAAAAAP!!!!!

This might be a personal fantasy of mine, but it turns out that it’s a real thing! Every year, hundreds of Tolkien fans gather in a forest about an hour outside of Prague to hold an annual “Battle of the Five Armies” à la The Hobbit. They dress up in full costumes and makeup and carry LARP-safe weaponry, dividing up into orcs and wargs on one side, and humans, elves, and dwarves on the other. And then… they go at it:

Apparently this has been going on for 20 years and started with just a few dozen fans. At the end of the two-day event, awards are given out to the groups with the most battle wins. Why didn’t anybody tell me about this years ago?! And why won’t someone send me to Europe with a camera crew to play–er, I mean report on it personally?

Check out Daily Mail’s coverage for some amazing photos from this year’s event.

Would you ever participate in this epic battle? If so, which side would you play on? Let us know in the comments!
