The Pull’s Pull: What to Pick Up on December 16th

Comic day is here
Happiness and cheer
Fun for all who like to call
Themselves a geek (hear, hear!).

Now that that earworm is stuck in your head, let’s get on to comics. Check out our hosts picks for this week in the video above  and remember to stay frosty, folks. (Or stay warm. Probably better to stay warm.)

Klaus-2-1Whitney’s Picks

Klaus #2
Story by Grant Morrison, Art by Dan Mora
Boom! Studios

Today’s a great day if you like your comics violent, beautiful, and covered in monsters! My picks for today are Klaus #2, wherein Grant Morrison explains the badass background of Santa, Monster World #1 coming at ya from American Gothic Press (it’s an old timey gumshoe mystery based off of old Hollywood monster movies), and of course, Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #2 which is setting up to be a beautifully built and supremely metal story. Happy reading!

Invincible_126-1Hector’s Pick

Invincible #126
Story by Robert Kirkman, Art by Cliff Rathburn and Jean-Francois Beaulieu
Image Comics

Invincible #126 by Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley concludes the “Reboot” storyline, and in classic Kirkman fashion, it’s not at all what you’re gonna expect. One of the greatest superhero comics of all time, Invincible shows no signs of loosing its edge (or its heart) and issue #126 proves it. Taking superhero comics cliches and making them actually MEAN something is what Kirkman has been perfecting for over a decade now. Ottley’s art is as crisp and raw as ever. And again, the ending of this issue will make you wish you were reading the NEXT issue right freaking now.

unbeatableSquirrelGirl3Amy’s Pick

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #3
Story by Ryan North, Art by Erica Henderson
Marvel Comics

Well, it’s right there in the title: Unbeatable! Longtime Pull-watchers know I am borderline obsessed with this funny, brilliant, lovely book from Ryan North and Erica Henderson, so for my last official Pick of the Week of 2015 I had to give it to the book that has provided me more pure joy, pound for pound, than anything else on the stands. But the field it’s at the head of is a very crowded one, I’m happy to say: watch the video for more info on the many beloved runners up this week!
