The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers, the rebooted movie slated to release in March 2017, has officially announced that Elizabeth Banks will be joining the cast as Rita Repulsa as reported earlier by Nerdist. Actually, Elizabeth Banks herself also announced it on Twitter, calling upon Rita’s most known quote.

Yes, we’ve seen her in some crazy insane wigs and dresses as Effie Trinket in the Hunger Games, but we guiltily admit that we’re not sure how we feel about her donning the white haired horn-styled wig.
The casting of this arch-villain role is interesting particularly since Banks is the most notable actor cast for the film, joining Naomi Scott, RJ Cyler, Becky G., Dacre Montgomery and Ludi Lin who are playing the titular characters Kimberly, Billy, Trini, Jason and Zach respectively. If you just asked yourself who those people are, that’s okay. We did too.
The casting makes us continue to feel more confused about whether or not to be excited for the movie. Part of TMMPR‘s appeal was how campy it was, and a dark, gritty reboot won’t be satisfying. At the same time, TMMPR is totally groan-worthy because of its camp. Banks is a consistently interesting comedic and dramatic actress so Rita can be portrayed in any number of ways. Ultimately, we’re holding out hope, mostly due to the strength of the writers, notably Ashley Miller and Zach Stentz, whose writing credits include Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, X-Men First Class, and Thor.
Miller and Stentz have a decent track record of taking stories that could either be full of camp or dark and gritty and finding a balance that makes a story fun while still feeling grown up. Fingers are crossed.
