Thank You From The Staff of Geek And Sundry

Thank You From The Staff of Geek And Sundry

For this holiday season, we asked some our staff members what they were thankful for this year. There’s a lot out there to be thankful for and here are just some of the things they had to say.

Claudia Sanchez Director of Brand Marketing, Gryffindor

I am super thankful for a community that thinks about others and makes working at Geek & Sundry a pleasure. This year alone we raised over $321,000 together for charity.

I am grateful for the opportunity we have had to make others peoples potential to be seen by highlighting artists who do amazing fan art of our shows, bringing indie bands to our live stream and got great exposure and so much love from our fans, and showed off games looking for crowd funding that we think need to see the light of day.

Having the most amazing fan-inclusive dance party at SDCC!!! Get ready for an even better one next year!! #GNSPopUPParty

SO MANY GIVEAWAYS! We’re grateful for the partners who are so good to our community and help us give our fans so much incredible swag!!!!

Grateful for Team Hooman, mods, our community that keeps it positive and inclusive online. You won’t find better on the internet and that stems from the heart of Felicia Day and Ryon Day who don’t take everything for themselves, but instead share the love and encourage others too.

Ryan CoppleGeneral Manager of Geek & Sundry, Slytherin

I’m grateful for the people who make Geek & Sundry great: the staff, the amazing talent we work with, and the community. Each and everyone one of you makes this something to be proud of being a part of.

As others have said, we’ve been really able to accomplish some amazing goals this years. With Critical Role, we’ve started a revolution that’s been getting people engaged in tabletop RPGs. As a group, we’ve done so much for charity. And above all else, we continue to make content that creates a community around it. All in all, I’m sure happy to be part of such a warm and inviting community. We’ve accomplished so much in 2015; I’m excited to see what 2016 has in store for everyone.

Jackie ColeTwitch Coordinator, Ravenclaw

Right now, the director of social media for Smart Girls is showing me her favorite restaurants in Hawaii. Alee-A is sunshine incarnate. She leaves everyone little secret post-its of positivity when they’re away from their desk. I get to work in the same office with this woman, and the three other women that make up the representatives of the most intelligent and positive women in the world.

She is showing me these restaurants because she is born and bred in Hawaii, which is where I’ll be visiting for the first time to see my brother, sister-in-law, and 3 charming, mischievous nieces this holiday. I’ll be traveling with my sister/best friend and greatest nephew an aunt could ever ask to sully with her personal brand of bad influence.

This year, I was brought into the fold of the Legendary Digital Network within the Geek & Sundry channel. I get to work in a building teeming with talented, hilarious, kind, cunning, and innovative minds almost every day of the week. I commute an hour each way and don’t regret a minute of it. All of this is in support of a community whose bottomless generosity and sincerity reinforces my faith in humankind.

If 2016 elevates my gratitude any further, I may have to swear off the dark arts for good. (Probably not, but maybe.)

This has been a huge year for me, both joining the site and watching it grow exponentially. I’m thankful for my G&S family who has welcomed me in and helped me find great stories to cover and amazing people to interview. Some of my favorite moments come from us laughing in the writer’s bullpen about something silly and it turns into a great article. There have been days that we just go through random anime series or talk about the finer points of Pokemon.

I’m also thankful to our amazing audience who choose to come back to Geek & Sundry every day to see what else we’ll be talking about. We have a lot of great plans rolling out in the New Year, and I can’t wait for you to be a part of them.

And finally, we couldn’t keep this site up and running without all of the great writers who manage to amaze me on a weekly basis. From their interviews to the great recommendations, our writers produce some of the best content on the internet. If you haven’t checked out any of the “Geek And Sundry 2015 in Review” articles, do so for some of the best events, articles, and galleries that hit the site. Next year, we’re going to cover more stories, talk to more people, and include you, the reader, into the process.

I’m pretty new to Geek & Sundry — it’s been a whopping 2 months — but I’m super grateful of how welcoming and warm that this family has been. I pretty much picked up my entire life in San Francisco and packed it into a terrifying and lopsided U-Haul (trying to parallel park a killer whale is probably easier), and the transition to LA was filled with a lot of question marks and general scariness. The amazing staff and fans of Geek & Sundry, Smart Girls, and Nerdist have made this so much easier. Thank y’all for being awesome and, of course, have a fantastic holiday season.

What are you thankful for this year? Let us know in the comment section below. And from all of us to all of you, have a geeky holiday season!
