Turns out Jeremy Lin is actually a major otaku? The Nets point guard recently announced he’d be retiring from professional basketball in order to clear his schedule for gaming and anime. Though, as the video below reveals, Lin could only be kept away from the court for so long. Naruto Uzumaki himself pulled the NBA star into Imaginationland to whip a super-team of “Anime-iacs” into shape for a big upcoming match. Does Sailor Moon have ups? Can Goku‘s dribbling fundamentals improve? Could Yugi Mutou integrate card play into zone defense?
Talks of a Space Jam sequel with LeBron James have started and stopped for the past few years. At last report, Justin Lin (no relation) was circling to direct. It’s clear that Jeremy couldn’t wait to actualize a boyhood fantasy he’s probably kept up for a solid 20 years, though. Hence… Space Jam 3.
This collaboration is stocked with detailed homages to Michael Jordan’s original animation hybrid, but it shifts the playground from golden age Loony Toons to latter day shonen and shojo. Pay attention for deep-cut in-jokes referencing Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and even Pokémon Go (but no overt references to Slam Dunk or Kuroko Basketball, surprisingly) and enjoy this goofy, goofy faux trailer.
