See How a Live-Action Futurama Looks in this Trailer

After an unpredictable cycle of cancellations and comebacks, the Galaxy Express seemed to finally shift into park for good at the end of Futurama‘s seventh season. The show’s creators said they were thinking about a Serenity-esque feature film continuation, but it’s been three years, and such a wait is more than Cinema Relics can bear. Not only has the team put together a full-length Futurama movie, they’ve also brought Fry, Bender, and Leela into territory the show never got to explore. Live-action. Peep how life in the 31st century would look with some flesh, blood, and make-up prosthetics below…

Yikes. Maybe some cute cartoon cyclopes look a bit freakier in three-dimensions, but this is clearly a top-tier fan film that’s already managed to pack a load of winks and nods in only just a minute-and-a-half. There’s Hermes indulging his two delights of limbo and stamp-happy bureaucracy. There’s Amy swiftly demonstrating why she’s the biggest klutz on staff. There’s the Hypno Toad, Nixon’s head in a jar, and a bottle of Olde Fortran Malt Liquor. And is that galactic blowhard Zapp Brannigan monologue-ing at the beginning…?

Fan-O-Rama’s official site offers plenty of closer glimpses at the loving detail the crew’s lavished on every prop and outfit. Publicity stills show each pore and wrinkle on Prof. Farnsworth’s face, and finally reveal what apps are on the screen of Leela’s wrist-mounted gadget. It also has a cheeky FAQ which clarifies that no release date is set yet, but Cinema Relics are endeavoring to get the finished film out soon. Futurama fans are used to waiting, at least. Surely, they can wait a wee longer.

In the meantime, everybody can bask in Fan-O-Rama’s official/unofficial one-sheet poster…

Could this fill the void Futurama has left in our hearts since 2013? What other toons should the Cinema Relics crew en-liven next? Hit the talkback with your thoughts.
