Break out the Eggos, kids, because it’s time to celebrate! Netflix’s breakout hit of the summer, Stranger Things, has enthralled audiences since it first landed on the streaming service in July. Most of us took a day or two to zip through the show’s premiere season, and true to Netflix binger form, fans of the show have been clamoring for new episodes of the brilliant eighties throwback series. Before we continue, there will be some spoilers ahead, so be warned!
Netflix has officially greenlit a second season for the show, and released a teaser trailer for the new season. As you can see, season two will be sporting a sizable nine episodes compared to season one’s eight. So, you know, you get add one extra hour to add to your one-to-two day marathon of the show.
The Duffer Brothers will be back as co-show runners, and the story will continue in the tiny town of Hawkins, Indiana in 1984–a year after the events of season one. According to an interview they gave with Entertainment Weekly, we can expect to see some new faces in the cast as well as some of our old favorites like Joyce (Winona Ryder), Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Lucas (Caleb McGlaughlin), and Will (Noah Schnapp). So it looks like we’re going to get to explore a bit further what exactly that slug-thing was in Will’s throat, and figure out why he’s still able to pop back into the Upside Down despite being rescued. I just want that poor kid to be happy…
I didn’t make any mention of Millie Bobby Brown’s character, Eleven, did I? Unfortunately, that was intentional. Despite hinting at Eleven’s survival at the end of season one, the Duffer Brothers have said they want to keep Eleven’s return to the show, “up in the air.” So it’s unclear if Mike and El will ever get to dazzle at the Snow Ball, but we can hope! Regardless of Eleven’s return, having a second season of Stranger Things is great news, and 2017 simply can’t get here soon enough!
What do you hope to see in the show’s second season? Do you think Eleven is still alive? What are your working theories about the Upside Down and what’s happening in Hawkins? Tell us what you think–because friends don’t tell lies–in the comments!
