For anyone familiar with film as an art form, we know that directors are artists and helmers of the ship that ultimately becomes that film we love. Which is exactly what drew us to the amazing illustrations on display in the gallery below. Artist Federico Babina‘s new series of whimsical images takes this theory even farther, showing houses “built” by 27 famous film directors.
It’s like a battle of the styles gone all architectural. Which, obviously, we adore because aesthetics! Like this futuristic bit of Star Wars silliness as “built” by Mr. George Lucas:
Ranging from Fellini to Jarmusch, Babina’s series entitled “Archidirector” brings to life the worlds of the filmmakers through architecture. Babina sees strong ties between architects who design structures and film directors who structure films. The illustrations use the textures, colors, and materials commonly used by these particular helmers, creating the same feel one would get from watching one of their films.
Contemporary auteurs like Wes Anderson and Tim Burton have made careers from the perpetuation of their unique aesthetic and filmmaking style. Now thanks to illustrator Federico Babina, you can even see how your favorite film director would possibly design their home. Don’t you want them all for your home? (That’s not just us, right?)
