25 year-old Canadian figure skater Kevin Reynolds just won over our nerdy hearts. Reynolds performed his solo routine for the 2016 Canadian National Figure Skating Championships to Yoko Kanno’s “Tank,” the theme from the popular anime series Cowboy Bebop. And on top of that, he did it dressed as Spike Spiegel. Watch:
Reynolds is a four-time national medalist in Canada. He took third place at the Four Continents competition in 2010, and first place in 2013. He also participated on the 2014 Sochi Olympic team, placing 15th in the men’s singles figure skating event.
In 2008, Reynolds competed in the NHK Trophy Grand Prix in Tokyo. During that time, someone commented that he resembled Crono from Chrono Trigger with his bright red hair, and he developed a huge Japanese fan base. In turn, Reynolds took interest in Japanese culture. In 2014, he paid homage to Link and skated to music from The Legend of Zelda at the Skate Canada Autumn Classic:
In case you’re curious how Reynolds scored with these performances, both numbers took third place at their respective competitions. The Cowboy Bebop routine could have placed higher had Reynolds not fallen on his triple axel and had a more stable landing on the triple flip. His camel spins are to die for though.
Kevin, you just keep doing what you’re doing. See you ice cowboy…
