Your party’s made it to the end of the adventure. The final boss looms before you. This is it. This is the battle that will determine the fate of the world. You have the chance to say something iconic before all hell breaks loose. This is your shining moment….
…and you blank. Dammit!
I’m pretty sure this has happened to all of us at one point or another when we’re engrossed in a tabletop RPG. We can’t always whip out a Grog-worthy “Bidet.” As we play these games, we get to know our characters inside and out. But once the pressure hits, all that can fly out the window, and you end up kicking yourself for days when the perfect phrase comes to you a few hours later.
The next time you find your brain panicking for something to say, try out Morbotron. “Wait, like Morbo, the news reporter from Futurama?” you ask. Why not? Some of the most memorable moments when we play are the funny ones. Morbotron is a collection of thousands of Futurama screencaps and quotes well beyond “Shut up and take my money!” You can go for a random quote, or you can search by key words such as episode titles, characters, or even partial phrases.
Morbotron was created by Paul Kehrer, Sean Schulte, and Allie Young as a Futurama version of their Frinkiac Simpsons quote generator. The system sports 861,414 unique frames and 63,527 subtitles from 124 episodes and 4 movies.
You can locate a quote, which is great for a game, but you can also make memes and animated GIFs if you put a little bit of effort into it. My personal favorite is the quote I share when consulting my fellow writers. And now I can meme it!
So the next time you find yourself blanking during your roleplay session, just click on Morbotron and find a quote. It’s pretty hard to go wrong with a Bender or Zapp Brannigan one-liner. Here, I’ll even start you off:
