Look Carefully: There’s More To This Cosplay Than Meets The Eye

When it comes to cosplay, sometimes you need to think outside the box. Malaysian makeup artist Saraswati a.k.a. @queenofluna is wowing people on Instagram by doing just that. She’s created several stunning character looks by using hijabs instead of her own hair or wigs. Her self-portraits range from anime to comics, video games, and Disney characters. In fact, her style makes her look like something straight out of a comic book. I wish I had a fraction of her makeup talent. I’m lucky if I can put on straight eyeliner.

I mean COME ON!

Saraswati’s use of her hijabs is genius. Her color choices and layering technique give the effect of real hair until you look more closely and realize that it’s not. In her Leela photo above, she matches the hijab perfectly with her makeup to create a seamless effect on the right side of her face. Below she creates her own version of Suicide Squad Harley Quinn by gathering the headscarf to look like Harley’s pigtails.

Here she is as Sailor Moon‘s Black Lady:

Saraswati proves that with some creativity and practice, you can cosplay anyone your heart desires. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to dig through my makeup stash and try her Gambit look. These are just a few of her magical images. Sorry. You’ll just have to see the rest directly on her Instagram.
