The Labyrinth of Jareth closes its doors on yet another successful year of dancing in ballrooms, amazing costumes, and a massive dragon we just happened to escape from this time. Walk down the hotel hallways and you would have been greeted by fairies, goblins, and some familiar faces from pop culture. Thousands of people came together for a two day celebration of fantasy. You should probably check out how this all started or find out more about the game behind the ball at this year’s labyrinth.
If there’s one thing that I heard from people about the event it was “I wished that I knew about this sooner.” The largest masquerade in America took place this year at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel, the location for the first Oscars ever held. Instead of boring people giving speeches, the room swelled with live bands, mermaid shows, acrobats performing in nearly every corner, and people admiring everyone’s outfits. It was not an unusual occurrence to see one person take someone’s picture only to pose to have one taken of them in return. And for all the dresses and outfits ranging from the divine to the modest, no one seemed out of place in the see of patrons dancing to steampunk rock or waltzing around the floor.
For a couple of days, we were all servants to a greater king, causing mischief with a band of goblins, or simply enjoying the performers rooming the stunning halls of the summer castle. Geek & Sundry made it to the ball as well for a little dancing and to take on a few missions from the post office. But mostly, we were there to see you, the loyal subjects. Check out our gallery of who made it to the masquerade this year. You’ll probably recognize a couple of faces as you’re flipping through the pictures.
