We’ve been anxiously waiting for the Pacific Rim sequel for what seems like an eternity now. Well kids, I’ve got some good news and some bad news for you.
The bad news is, waiting for the new film is going to be even tougher now, but the good news is that the movie just added one of our faves to its cast. Deadline has officially reported that John Boyega has been added to the cast of Pacific Rim 2. Even better, Boyega isn’t being added to the general cast, but reports are saying that’s going to be the lead in the new film. Specifically, he’ll be playing the son of Stacker Pentecost (played by Idris Elba). All I can say about this casting choice is: Hell. Yes.
Unlike the first Pacific Rim film, the sequel won’t be directed by Guillermo del Toro (though he’s still a producer on the film). The film will still be in very capable hands, as the sequel is going to be directed by Stephen S. DeKnight, who was the showrunner of Daredevil season one. We don’t know much about the movie, but we do know that Pacific Rim 2 is set to start production in the latter half of this year with a projected release date in 2018. Hopefully, we’ll get more information about the film as the year goes on. Either way, this is an awesome development, and makes it that much harder to wait until 2018.
What do you think of the casting announcement? Are you excited to see John Boyega in Pacific Rim 2? What do you hope to see in the upcoming film? Let’s talk about it in the comments!
