Jessica Chobot is Samus IRL In “Metroid: The Sky Calls”

Our friend Jessica Chobot, who you can catch daily on Nerdist News, stars as the live action Samus Aran in this absolutely gorgeous short film based on Nintendo’s Metroid series. Made by Rainfall Films- who you may remember as the creators of the amazing Wonder Woman short which came out a few years back-“Metroid: The Sky Calls” features an original score and beautiful graphics with a retro-vibe.

Rainfall describes the look and feel of the film to be reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, and Solaris. “Instead of using a modern approach, director Balcomb chose to incorporate a style more in tune with the types of films that inspired the first Metroid game in 1986… favoring exploration and isolation over action spectacle. Techniques including VHS transfers and custom scanned 16mm film stock were implemented to give the short its retro look.”

You can check out more of Rainfall’s work on their website or stop over to Nerdist to see what Jessica’s been up to on Nerdist News.
