Recently, it was announced that Warner Bros. Pictures plans to make a solo movie about Nightwing, the former partner of Batman who went on to become a popular superhero in his right. Before he was Nightwing, Dick Grayson was the original Robin for decades, before his stint on the Teen Titans allowed him to come out of Batman’s shadow. To pull off the same trick on the big screen is going to be no easy feat, and the role of Nightwing is bound to be heavily coveted by several actors in Hollywood. And there’s at least one performer who is already hoping for a chance: Supernatural star Jared Padalecki.
Shortly after the Nightwing movie was announced, a fan asked Padalecki if he would think about playing the part of Dick Grayson on the big screen. In response, Padalecki indicated that it’s something that has been on his mind for a long time.
@DanielJFalconer I’ve always wanted to…

But would Padalecki be a good choice to play Nightwing? Within the DC Universe, Nightwing has most often been depicted as a young man in his early 20s. Padalecki is 35 years old, a mere ten years younger than the current big screen Batman, Ben Affleck. But that may actually work in Padalecki’s favor. Affleck’s Batman has been said to have been active for over 20 years as Batman. It’s not inconceivable that Bruce Wayne was only ten years older than Dick Grayson when he adopted him as his ward and trained him to become a crime fighter.
Padalecki’s 12 season stint on Supernatural has also given him a lot of experience with action scenes, although he would probably still have to train extensively to pull off the acrobatic fighting style of Nightwing. But there is at least one innate quality that Padalecki shares with Dick Grayson: they’re are both known to be very appealing to their female and gay fans. Some fans might argue that it’s worth casting Padalecki for that reason alone!
