Interview with Liam MacKay: LA Film Festival “Let’s Play”

This year Los Angeles Film Festival will take it’s first foray into gaming with “Let’s Play”, an event featuring video games (and their creators) from around the world doing playthroughs and commentary. Among the creators featured is Liam “Nilesy” MacKay, whose game is Illusion: Ghost Killer.

Geek & Sundry: How did you get involved in the festival? How did you feel when you were asked to be a part of it?

Liam MacKay: One of my good friends at Machinima, Joel Rubin, passed my details on to the LA Film Fest as I like to play and showcase indie titles and that’s what they were looking for. I feel incredibly flattered and excited to be part of the event! It makes me super happy to have my content reach such a bunch of awesome people, and I hope they enjoy it as much I did in making it!

GS: What, if anything, do you think being included in a festival means for gaming?

LM: I feel that having the ability to showcase and integrate gaming content in to film festivals will be fantastic for the industry. In my case, it allows a potentially overlooked indie developer to have their game seen and enjoyed by a wide audience, an opportunity which can hugely bolster the development of future indie titles.

GS: What do you hope audience members will take away from seeing your piece?

GS: Is there anything you’d like to add about your experience?

LM: It’s been a pleasure working with the Drea (Clark, producing the event) and the team at the LA Film Fest, they’re really cool people and I hope everybody who attends has a wondrously fantastic time!
