Mystery Science Theater 3000 creator and host Joel Hodgson has big plans to bring back the show, and he needs YOU to help. Today, Hodgson launched a Kickstarter campaign to bring back MST3K! He hopes to raise at least $2 million to create three new feature-length episodes. His final goal is $5.5 million to make a full season of 12 brand-spanking new episodes.
The cult hit TV show stars a human and his robot pals as they protect their brains from mind-meltingly awful movies using sarcasm as their only shield. MST3K debuted in 1988 and lasted for 12 years on the air, spanning 197 episodes and a slew of hosts and puppeteers.
“I don’t think there’s ever been a show more dependent on its fans than Mystery Science Theater 3000,” Hodgson says. “Twenty-five years ago, we asked our fans to ‘Keep Circulating The Tapes’ and sharing MST3K with their friends and family to help the show find its audience. Now, I’m hoping the fans will join me again to “Keep Circulating the URL” of our Kickstarter, so that we can bring MST3K back to life for a new generation.”
