One might never have expected to see “zombies” and “cheeky British comedians” in the same sentence… provided one willfully ignore Shawn of the Dead, of course. Still, it’s exceedingly rare to see such two things associated, and even harder to imagine John Cleese ever being involved with The Walking Dead. Yet, a simple button click below will indeed cue a summary of the horror show’s past six seasons in the former Monty Python member’s unmistakable style.
Yes, much like when Samuel L. Jackson explained Game of Thrones, this is a tight and breezy description of a cult TV series from an actor who’s unlikely to ever appear in the show itself. Why, it’s easy to imagine the former inspiring the latter, in fact. AMC isn’t actually behind this. Nor is HBO. It was created by Sky’s internet affiliate, Now TV. And that begs the question of whether this is a trend which will inevitably lead to, say, Ian McKellan catching everybody up on The Flash
Even if it weren’t so delightful to hear Mr. Cleese pronounce “Caaaaarl!” with a Southern drawl, set us straight on proper terms for the undead, and offer a perfectly polite description of that swarthy miscreant, Merle, this is still a tight and succinct recap. Doesn’t matter if you’re joining Walking Dead just as Negan’s getting started, or you were hanging in suspense for months until recently, wondering whose skull(s) he bashed in. The clip above will keep you fresh on everything you ought to know in a matter of minutes.
Do you agree with Mr. Cleese’s take on the walkers? What unexpected celebrity should summarize a long-running show next? Name the series and the star, and drop all your fan-casting down in the talkback, all right?
