Pottermore, the source for all things Harry Potter, announced some exciting news. First, there will be a Special Rehearsal Edition of the script book for the new stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I & II. The Cursed Child is the eighth official story in the Harry Potter timeline.
The book will contain the final script used during previews before the play premieres this summer at London’s West End. Both print and digital forms will be available shortly thereafter along with a Definitive Collector’s Edition. So what’s the difference? The preview performances allow the production to garner feedback and make adjustments to the show. This may or may not drastically impact the script. The opportunity to read any script before its final form is a rare opportunity.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is based on an original story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany. The play stars Jamie Parker as Harry, Noma Dumezweni as Hermione, and Paul Thornley as Ron.
The good news doesn’t stop with the play. Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, which means there will be special limited edition releases of the book with covers for each of the four Hogwarts houses. Furthermore, there will also be a brand new edition of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, with new content by J.K. Rowling, as well as new formats and editions of Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard.
