May 23rd is World Turtle Day, a day dedicated to turtles and tortoises and for their human neighbors to help them continue to survive and thrive on this earth. While we should all spend World Turtle Day learning ways we can help keep the turtle and tortoise population thriving, such as never make a wild turtle a pet and always help turtles cross the road safely, let’s not forget those important lessons taught to us by another group of important turtles–the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Here are just a few of those lessons they taught us:
Family: TNMT taught us that though your parents might not be the ones you had at birth, it doesn’t make you any less of a family or any less loved…
..It also taught us that the best adoptive fathers are the ones who are giant, mutant rats who also know some killer martial arts.
Confidence: It doesn’t matter what other people say, you are perfect just the way you are, and you can be confident in that!
…and if you happen to be an enormous, muscly, mutant turtle, that’s okay too. You’re beautiful, Michelangelo.
Friendship: It’s good to make friends with those who are different than you. It not only challenges you, but it also helps you see new ideas and perspectives.
Just remember, if your entire family is made up of mutant creatures, be sure to give your new human friend time to ease in to the friendship. Patience is key.
Style: Don’t be afraid to find a “signature look”, even if it’s a bit non-traditional. As long as you’re feeling confident, go for it!
And, if you happen to be a mutant turtle, so really the only thing you “wear” are bits of colored fabric, don’t be afraid to pick a signature color and stick with it!
And most importantly, never forget the most important rule:
Be healthy. Exercise and eat healthfully. It’s important to take care of yourself!
Might I recommend martial arts and generous servings of pizza? What, pizza’s good for you. Tomatoes are a vegetable!
