So you’re waiting for Jurassic World to come out and you have all of this extra time on your hands. You’ve also coincidentally been wondering what it’s like to hack into some files. Luckily, there is a free game just for you made during Global Game Jam 2015 and it’s based on a single scene from Jurassic Park. It’s called I Know This.
In case you need a quick reminder, there’s a very dire scene in Jurassic Park where Lex needs to find a very specific file in order to basically save the day and keep them all from being killed by dinosaurs. She jumps on the computer, proclaims: “It’s a UNIX system! I know this!” then weaves through a maze of seemingly random boxes (aka files) on the screen, finds the correct one and overrides the system. This is where the two primary creators, Renaud Bédard and Gavin McCarthy come in. I Know This wants you to essentially reverse-engineer it what’s seen in the movie.
The goal of the game is to “hack” through the system to find the proper files. “Hacking” in this game consists of banging on your keyboard and basically making everyone around you think you’re either a genius or very angry. As you hack into the system, you have to watch out for spotlights, which if they catch you will send you back to the start. Purple folders provide clues leading to the Golden Folder and thus how you win the game. There’s even a cute little guy named Clicky to help you navigate your way.
Overall it’s a pretty fun, simple game that will get you ready for Jurassic World. Plus, if you’ve ever wanted to pretend to be a hacker, this is your shot!
