As gamers, at some point in our lives, we have run into someone who tries to tell us video games are ruining us as humans. That they desensitize us to the world around us.
I’m fairly certain those someones have never heard of Extra Life, which is just one of the many geeky charities run over the world.Extra Life consists of a 24-hour (or 25-hour, this year) gaming marathon that raises money for participating children’s hospitals. Some gamers hold livestreams, others allow sponsors to choose the games they play based on their donations and all of those proceeds go to the hospital of that gamer’s choice.
So why am I talking to you about Extra Life now? Because quite a few of us at Geek & Sundry have formed a team of our own to raise money this year. On November 2nd – 3rd some of us will be tackling the whole 24hrs with a livestream, others will be taking handheld gaming breaks at Comikaze Expo and documenting the process via Vine and Instagram.
We reached our team goal of $1,000 today, so since the actual marathon is still a ways away, we’ve raised it to $2,000! You can donate any time between now and Nov 3rd at midnight.
As we approach November 2nd, we will be providing everyone with details on where to catch livestreams and the like. Remember, 100% of those donations go to the hospitals and no donation is too small. Think of it as buying us a cup of coffee. No, I mean it. Even a cup of coffee’s worth of donation helps.
