Game of Thrones gets the Cosmic Encounter Treatment

With the fate of the realm up in the air, a new board game gives players the chance to battle and scheme in a grab for power, Game of Thrones style. Fantasy Flight Games has announced a Cosmic Encounter-style game called Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne, where you can play as everyone’s favorite character, Cersei Lannister.

The premise is familiar. There is a battle to rule Westeros and each player must pick a house. Players then use characters to battle, strategize, bluff, form alliances, and more in order to win the Iron Throne. Each turn involves an “encounter” between two players.

During these encounters, players can create an alliance with another team to defeat their challenger. Using various members of your house, players lie to one another, break truces, and participate in general shenanigans as the game moves forward. House Lannister always repays their debts, but they might also betray you in the process.

When the game begins, each house will have five characters. They must choose one to be their leader. So if you choose Arya Stark as your leader, you’ll probably end up in more sword fights than your comfortable with. Be careful not to end up on her list! Players also receive character cards, that give unique abilities hbo11-inspirationdepending on which characters you choose to use during each encounter. I hope Daenerys’ card comes with some dragons to fly around when you need some extra help.

Just like on Game of Thrones, the goal is to defeat the other houses by spreading your influence and ultimately take over the throne.

Check out more info about Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne on the Fantasy Flight Games website. I hope you fare better than most characters in the series and actually live long enough to finish the game.

Which house would you be in Game of Thrones? Let us know in the comments!
