Game Master Tips with Satine Phoenix – Player Buy In

Welcome back to another exciting season of Game Master Tips! Our Game Master extraordinaire, Satine Phoenix, shares with you some of her tips for creating amazing adventures, dealing with difficult parties, or what it takes to sit behind the GM screen. Even if you are a first time storyteller or a veteran of the field, Satine helps you to become a better player at the table.

This season, Satine brings in some of the best minds to craft an adventure to the show to tackle the issue of the day. Game designer and Game Master Keith Baker takes a seat at the table this time to help us understand how to get players invested in our world.

Giving your characters a backstory is valuable to know when designing your story. Pick a leader in the group to help decision making go smoothly. Give players a reason to follow along on this adventure. Try to create characters in the world that remind them of past people or things in their backstories. Keith points out that you need to get your players to care about the adventure. Questionnaires before hitting the table can get your players primed for the situation and give them the chance to think about how their character fits in that world. Find out how to create a world people want to play in from of the masters of the craft.
